I haven’t written for a while because I have been so busy building this site, trying to build an online store, selling stuff on EBAY and getting the gym space ready. It has been very hectic, but I have made so much progress. This past weekend was a blast and a welcome reprieve from my crazy life. I competed in a Cornhole Tournament; trust me it’s not what you think.

A few weeks ago I received a text invitation to the “First Annual Myers Cornhole Tournament” from my buddy Doug. At first I dismissed it as a rant. I thought someone had screwed him over and he was just venting. I figured the whole Cornhole thing was a reference to him getting screwed, so I ignored the first invite. A few days passed and I received another invite, this time my mind wandered and the visual I got was quite disturbing. I figured he had become someone’s submissive girlfriend and he was being forced to make the invitation to his “Cornhole Tournament” as part of some weird punishment.  There was poor Doug in leather, and a ball gag while onlookers witnessed something I’d rather not repeat. Luckily I was wrong on both counts and Cornhole is an actual game, they even have a website which you can visit at playcornhole.org.

Well I’m here to tell you that EBAY, for all it’s ups and downs has worked as promised. I’ve sold off most of the stuff in my garage that had been collecting dust and made a few bucks in the process. I’m still a couple hundred short for the equipment I need, but that’s because I over spent this month and had to dip into my gym fund. Of all the sales, I’ve only had one really bad experience, and that was with the sale of a vehicle. I had it sold and a guy backed out the last minute and never paid. Luckily this past week it finally sold and I’m back on track. That sale gave me the majority of the cash I needed to buy the equipment. Now I just need to get a couple hundred more to order my gear. I am planning on purchasing the “Warrior” package from Rogue Fitness. It seems to have all the equipment I’d need to get started and comes with free shipping; no one else seems to come close to what they offer for the price. I was really hoping to add their bench and squat rack as an option. It is cheaper when bought with the package, but it would cost another fiver hundred on top of the two hundred I am short, so I guess it will have to wait. This is what I accomplished this last week and plan on doing soon.

If you’ve ever heard the saying “Attitude is everything” and dismissed it as myth, this article is for you. Attitude is everything, even when the chips are down, it can make a huge difference in the outcome of any situation. If you’re like me you’ve seen successes and failures in your life. But your failures are the ones that you remember most. We rarely acknowledge the great stuff happening all around us and choose only to see what’s rotten. To make matters worse, the evening news is more than happy to point out that there are monumental failures all around us. There are bank failures, oil well failures, city management failures (Bell, CA), marriage failures and the list goes on and on. At times it seems as though the whole world is failing and things won’t get any better. So you can either accept your fate and go through life angry and with a bad attitude or choose to make a change that will affect everyone and everything around you, it’s all up to you.

Until recently my attitude had been going down hill and quick. I’d had numerous business dealings go south, the future didn’t look so bright and I was starting to wonder about my path in life. This just wasn’t like me, I have always tried to look on the bright side, but lately circumstances had started to take their toll. The problem with a bad attitude is that it’s contagious just like a cold. You can easily pass it on to family, friends and co-workers and before you know it everyone is having a whine fest. I had noticed that my attitude was catching on at home and I needed to do something quick. Luckily I caught myself before I became a self-absorbed certifiable whiner and I’d turned my whole family into whiners as well.

If you’ve been reading any of my articles and I’m sure you have, because they are riveting and thoroughly entertaining, you’ll know that I am in full training mode. For most who are fit (Which I am not, Crossfit taught me that) my workouts are probably a joke.  But for me, a guy who was until recently pushing 270lbs its tough work. Sure I’ve been lifting for years but lifting don’t get rid of the fat and it don’t prepare you for Crossfit.

Most days I go running/jogging/walking (More walking that the other two) in the hills. My long-term goal is to compete in a Crossfit sectional event. Since my cardio sucks, I’m doing the hills to conquer that beast. I don’t have all my Crossfit equipment yet so instead of waiting, I’ve been improvising and filling in with the hills whenever possible. My routine is simple; I get home from work, eat some dinner and prepare myself for the arduous task that awaits, the dreaded hills. They plain suck, especially since I have to push my fat ass, the jogger and a baby (Totaling another 55 lbs) up a hill.

My list starts at number ten and culminates at the number one reason I'd love to hate Crossfit but don't.  I'm sure if you've been doing the Crossfit WOD's for any length of time you could easily add to the list and I'd love to hear about your hates. So please make a comment at the end of the list, if for nothing else to tell me I'm not alone!

10. The WOD’s make me realize that I’m not in that great of shape and that hurts my ego.

9. Usually after a WOD I find muscles I didn’t know I had, and they hurt.

8. I’m not a fan of vomit and on occasion I’ve been pushed to that point. Damn you Crossfit, working out is supposed to be easy and relaxing.

It’s been an uphill battle selling all my stuff on EBAY. It seems like I’ve had more late payments and non-payments than good transactions. The most recent was a vehicle we were trying to sell. This was to be the big-ticket item that would give me a couple grand towards new Crossfit equipment. I’ve listed the vehicle several times before but it did not sell for what I wanted. When it did finally sell, I got cheated on a deposit and ultimately the final sale. In my opinion the guy was feeling buyers remorse and found any excuse to back out of the deal. When it came time to pay (as we were filling out the title) he backed out because the license plate number on the title did not match the one on the vehicle. After numerous attempts to convince him the VIN number is what matters, he refused to budge. He said the deal was shady even after we suggested a ride to the local police station to verify the title. Mayra even agreed to drive the car to Los Angeles and meet the dude at the DMV. He agreed but backed out after she made the trip, and basically we never heard from him again. We received a fraction of the deposit via PayPal, but ended up spending that amount in gas and additional title replacement fees, since the title was partially changed to reflect the sale prior to him backing out. We might take the guy to court to get our money back but have not yet decided.
